The last of the seven coins that make up the New Zealand Mints celebration of Thunderbirds 50th anniversary is released today, and is the only gold coin in the collection. We've covered every coin in the collection to date and we reckon the New Zealand Mint has done an excellent job with the designs. The first coin was a 1 oz silver version of the design you see here, and this was followed [...]

The last of the five coin Thunderbirds Countdown coins, and the penultimate release of seven coins overall, Thunderbird 1 is perhaps the most iconic representation of the series. The Mach 22.6 rocket powered reconnaisance craft was designed to be the first response from the International Rescue organisation and was a capable rescue craft in its own right.
The five-coin 'Thunderbirds Countdown' thunders on with one of the most popular elements of the whole show, Thunderbird 2. Piloted by the brother Virgil, Thunderbird 2 is the innovative heavy lifter of the organisation designed to carry different configurations of rescue equipment in numbered 'Pods'.
The countdown of Thunderbirds vessels continue with the release of the second of the five, Thunderbird 4. Each coin will depict the main Thunderbird vessels and the Tracy brothers that control them. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic British science-fiction tv show, 'Thunderbirds'
The second of the New Zealand Mints seven coins celebrating the 50th anniversary of the superb British science-fiction tv show, 'Thunderbirds' launches today and is the first of five that depict the main Thunderbird vessels and the Tracy brother that controls them. The series of Niue-issued coins started in February with a design dedicated to the anniversary itself and is planned to end in September with the same design in gold. The central five [...]
It's all go for television coins with the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who having just passed in 2013, and Star Treks 50th to come in 2016 with the first coins due any day. In between those two comes the 50th anniversary of a show that for me at least, easily stands alongside those two greats; Thunderbirds. The greatest of Gerry Anderson's puppet-based creations, Thunderbirds chronicles the adventures of International Rescue, a mysterious rescue [...]
The NZ Mint's Chibi tsunami continues apace with a new addition to the Harry Potter series, the seventh, and a whole new franchise to mine - Lord of the Rings. The big baddie of the Pottervers, Lord Voldemort, is the subject this time, as the mint rapidly works its way through the character lineup. We do note that only on the Potter coins is there a 'I' after the name of the [...]

With Star Wars very much in the ascendant at the moment, it remains the New Zealand Mints biggest licence. An old hand at licenced coin properties, the NZM has released entertainment tie-ins for years, like Doctor Who, Disney and Thunderbirds. With the big competitor Star Trek, being snapped up by the Perth and Royal Canadian Mints, it's a good time to be a sci-fi coin collector. The simultaneous release of the [...]
The New Zealand Mints biggest licence at the moment is undoubtedly Star Wars. More than any other mint, the NZM has released entertainment tie-ins for years, like Doctor Who, Disney and Thunderbirds, only the Perth Mint with Star Trek, and the Royal Canadian Mint with Superman and Looney Tunes are any competition. Star Wars, although it debuted in cinemas back in 1977, is back big time with the latest movie, The [...]
The New Zealand Mint, have pulled out all the stops with possibly the biggest license of them all, Star Wars. Having released entertainment tie-ins for years, like Doctor Who, Disney and Thunderbirds the mint has made this type of coin its speciality with the only real competition being the Perth and Royal Canadian Mints. Star Wars debuted in cinemas back in 1977, but with a new movie just a few weeks [...]
With Star Wars, Star Trek, Thunderbirds and Back to the Future all hitting the coin world over the last few weeks, we decided to bend our coin-only rules a little and cover a recent release featuring another of the sci-fi worlds great icons, the Terminator. Released in 1984 and rapidly becoming one of the most revered science-fiction movies in cinema history, James Cameron's seminal masterwork The Terminator, gave the [...]
With the Perth Mint powering on through its new Star Trek license, it seemed for a while that nobody would get a bigger one, but the old masters at this typer of coin, the New Zealand Mint, have pulled out all the stops with possibly the biggest license of them all, Star Wars. The NZ Mint have been doing movie/television tie-ins for years with some pretty good results
We've reached the midway point of the five-coin 'Thunderbirds Countdown' with the rocket, Thunderbird 3. Each of the five coins depicts one of the main Thunderbird vessels and the Tracy brother that controls it. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the superb Gerry Anderson conceived British science-fiction tv show, 'Thunderbirds'
With Disney and Thunderbirds in full flow at the New Zealand Mint, with Star Trek just starting an epic multi-year mission from the Perth Mint, and with Batman, Superman and the Godfather putting in appearances this last year, there's never been a better time for the collector of numismatic television and movie memorabilia.
The Disney collection grows ever larger with a new addition to the New Zealand Mints 'Disney Princesses' series, one putting the animation giants leading two-dimensional ladies in the spotlight. The first coin in this new series had its debut back in January featuring Cinderella, the second coin depicted Aurora, the lead of one of Disney's most popular movies, Sleeping Beauty, and now the Princess Aurora from The Little Mermaid is upon us. As is [...]
The New Zealand Mint has launched its new website and it's a huge improvement on the clunky one of old. It's now much easier to navigate and buy, especially since they've also moved to accept PayPal. That's all well and good, but new websites are popping up everywhere at the moment and while usually something to appreciate, not anything to get excited about. New coins are... Probably the most prolific issuers of licensed coins, [...]
The next release in the Disney Juggernaut is now upon us and it's the second coin in the New Zealand Mints 'Disney Princesses' series, one showcasing the female stars of some of their most beloved movies. Starting back in January with Cinderella, this second coin depicts the lead of one of Disney's most popular movies, Sleeping Beauty, a character modelled after iconic screen beauty Audrey Hepburn. As before, there are two coins being released, [...]
