Scottsdale wraps up its 2020 EC8 program with the double release of Anguilla and St. Lucia

Not as late as we feared after a pandemic laden 2020, Scottsdale Mint wraps up last years Eastern Caribbean 8 bullion coin series with the dual release of the final two entrants, Anguilla and St Lucia. We’ve covered these extensively over the last three years (this is the third run through the eight island nations) and have a comprehensive Bullion Coin Profile available to view, so lets just have a quick look at the new pair.

Anguilla has previously been represented with a couple of striking lobster designs (they look better than they sound…), but this time it’s their turn to get the national coat-of-arms treatment that others in the series have already received. It’s a good-looking shield with three dolphins circling. The St.Lucia coin is more attractive, with a neat Whiptail Lizard on a rock representing the island.

The usual range of formats, all an ounce in weight. A gold, and a silver in bullion finish, with proof coloured variants in far more limited mintage form. All eight new issues should be appearing at the usual places anytime now.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

ANGUILLA: The 2020 EC8 Anguilla coin proudly displays the island nation’s Coat of Arms, which is also the emblem found on the flag of Anguilla, a traditional symbol of the territory. The coat of arms consists of three dolphins leaping over the sea.

The orange dolphins represent endurance, unity, and strength, and they form a circle as a sign of continuity. The badge has a white background, for peace and tranquility, and a turquoise-blue base representing the surrounding Caribbean sea and also faith, youth, and hope.

ST LUCIA: The 2020 EC8 St. Lucia coin depicts the many beautiful faces of this island that is truly blessed by nature. The foreground prominently features the Whiptail Lizard (affectionately called “Zando” by locals), an endangered and iconic reptile species that is endemic to St. Lucia and the only whiptail species found in the entire Caribbean.

The whiptail is set against a backdrop of the famous Gros and Petit Pitons rising up from the sea. The volcanic peaks rise dramatically from the Caribbean Sea to approximately 750m and are classified as a World Heritage Site. Finally the coin includes the national flower – the St. Lucia Rose – a nod to the abundant flora the island is so proud of.
