Pickle Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiick! The brilliant Rick & Morty animated series marks its first coin outing with the mad genius himself

Who doesn’t love animation? For me, it’s South Park, Archer, Family Guy, Samurai Jack, The Tick, and the subject of this debut coin from Glines & Rhodes, Rick & Morty. A surreal experience, Rick & Morty charts the misadventures of an unbalanced genius scientist, and his naive grandson, Morty. An alcoholic, who has created chaos across multiple dimensions, either personally, or by one of the many other Ricks in those alternate realities, he nevertheless loves Morty, and seems to be on a mission to broaden the boys horizons.

Often, a series like this that achieves cult status, is often just a pale shadow of the legend in reality, but this show is genuinely an absolute blast. The third episode in season three, is a prime example of just how weird this show gets. Wanting to get out of attending a family therapy meeting, he turns himself into a pickle. He ends up in a sewer, where he makes a robot body out of rat parts, using a cockroach, whose brain he was controlling with his tongue. It goes on, but you get the general idea!

The first coin to celebrate the show, is none other than Pickle Rick. A simple shaped and coloured one-ounce silver coin, it’s a brave choice for a debut. The main characters are very well known, but Rick as a pickle is strictly one for the fans, leading us to believe this will be a series set to run for a while. If you’re not a Rick & Morty fan, this will have no appeal, of course, but those that are, will probably love it. The packaging looks well themed and recognisably so, and the mintage of 1,499 pieces seems well-chosen. Cool. Available to order from today.
