Mickey Through the Ages continues with Delayed Date gold and silver proof coin range

Mickey Through the Ages continues into its second year of releases with the second coin of 2017, Delayed Date. Like the New Zealand Mint’s Classic Disney coins, Mickey Through the Ages delves into the history of this ultra-iconic company, in this case focusing on its most famous creation. Four coins were released last year (the 1935 classic The Band Concert, The Brave Little Tailor from 1938, the 1929 Plane Crazy and Fantasia.) and this is the second of 2017, following The Gallopin Gaucho.

Released on October 3, 1947, the Charles Nichols directed Delayed Date was the last Mickey Mouse cartoon featuring Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse. The story revolves around Mickey sleeping on the couch, forgetting about his date with Minne. She calls him and with his dog Pluto’s help, gets dressed for the date, but loses the tickets to the show on his way out the door. Pluto takes the tickets to Mickey, after his suit has been ruined by water from a passing car, and then Minnie arrives and tells him he has a cute costume for the “hard times” costume party.

With the series being so popular, there are no changes to the range of four formats available. As before, only the 1 oz proof silver is coloured. The 0.5 g, ¼ oz and 1 oz  proof gold coins are all cleanly struck. Packaging, a wooden box inside a coloured shipper, remains the same for all but the 0.5g minigold variant. This is mounted to in a credit-card style, also colourfully themed. All have a serialised certificate of authenticity.

A classic Disney design, we can’t see any fans of the series being disappointed by this one. Prices are the same as last time, $85.00 for the silver, and $2,500.00, $620.00, and $75.00 respectively for the golds (all USD). All are available to buy from later today. The mint has done a fine job with this series to date, no doubt aided by the wealth of material featuring Walt Disney’s foremost creation.
