Deadly and Dangerous twelfth coin release features the aggressive predatory Bull Shark

It was way back in 2006 that the Perth Mint debuted its latest coloured silver coin series, Deadly and Dangerous. While ostensibly just another of the mints plethora of coins in this format, the Red-Back Spider coin captured collectors imaginations and became a huge hit. It’s easy to see why as the coin had a superb design.

Fast forward to 2017 and it’s time for the twelfth annual coin release and in this case it’s another well chosen subject, the very aggressive Bull Shark. Commonly found in warm, shallow waters along coasts and in rivers, the Bull Shark is quite capable of travelling a considerable distance upstream into a freshwater river. They’ve been known to travel up the Mississippi River as far as Illinois for example and several attacks hundreds of miles up the Ganges have been noted. Considered the most dangerous shark in the world because of its preference for hunting close to shore and for having a giant-sized chip on its shoulder. They’ve been known to weigh over 300kg and one example was recorded at 4 metres in length.

Tha design is another good one, certainly in the top five for us. As usual, just the title and composition are inscribed on the reverse face, everything else on the obverse where it belongs. Packaging remains excellent, a gloss wood box with a removable holder that allows the coin to displayed vertically. All is packaged in a coloure and themed shipper. A certificate of authenticity is included.

While interest in the series has definitely cooled since the heady early days, they remain well liked and we’d imagine this one will certainly appeal to regular collectors of the series. Available now from Downies and a few others. We have a Coin Series Profile to the range if you’d like to see the other eleven entrants.
