One of the Perth Mints June 2013 releases, Discover Australia 2013 is the series fourth consecutive annual release. Like previous years, five coins make up the release and they’re available individually or in a collectors set. Available now from the Perth Mint website or from the usual dealers.
An attractive set with selective, but not overpowering colour highlights. This series has been quite popular in the past and we’d expect that to continue this year. Packaging, as usual from The Perth Mint, is first class. Not a series that’s going to be a huge appreciator given that pretty much all the coins from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 series are still available, but one to get for aesthetic reasons, especially if the subject is appealing to you. Certainly maintains the high standard of prior years and the Koala and Kookaburra are particularly well done in our opinion.
Each coin from the Discover Australia 2013 Silver Five-Coin Set has been struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The Kangaroo coin’s reverse depicts a kangaroo set against a coloured outback scene incorporating wild spring grasses and Australian boab trees.
The Koala coin’s reverse depicts an adult koala on a eucalyptus tree stump against a coloured forest scene and picturesque sunset.
The Emu coin’s reverse depicts an emu against a coloured desert scene incorporating wild flowers and grasses.
The Kookaburra coin’s reverse depicts a winged kookaburra against a coloured river scene at dawn.
The Platypus coin’s reverse depicts a platypus against a coloured tropical rainforest scene.
The inscriptions DISCOVER AUSTRALIA and the name of the specific animal frames each coin. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the 2013 year-date are also included in the design.
Issued as Australian legal tender, each coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
The 2013 Discover Australia silver proof coin series is available in a five-coin presentation case featuring a timber lid and stylised shipper.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of each of the 2013 Discover Australia 1oz silver proof coins, with an issue limit of 3,500 for each individual coin and 1,500 for the five-coin set.
