Mint of MK and The Gold Village take their quirky sense of style to the culinary coin genre with this unusual instant noodle homage

Food isn’t one of the commoner themes in modern numismatics, but it does attract a higher proportion of unusual ideas than most others. Even the Monnaie de Paris got in on the trend with a fried egg, and we’ve had coins shaped like a bar of chocolate, and a pizza, the latter even coming with a scratch-n-sniff coating. Now it’s time for a world staple – instant noodles.

The concept here is quite simple, which actually heightens the appeal. The reverse face of the coin is a bowl of noodles, and the raised rim of the coin forms a border around a yellow-gold resin infill, giving the impression of wet food. The obverse has a similar look, instead here, the resin has been replaced with detail, specifically with four sachets, on which are inscribed the coin’s issue details.

Everything about it is straight to the point, and that includes the neat packaging as well. This looks like one of those paper pots with a foil lid, just as you’d expect from a real package of instant noodles. The specification is printed on the outside, as well as on a round certificate internally. This release may be a little too off-the-wall for some, but we’re sure plenty will be amused by just how different it is, and the mintage of just 222 is a bonus. Available to order now.
