The Royal Canadian Mint debuts its first 'Ice Age' two-ounce silver bullion coin - the fearsome Smilodon The Royal Canadian Mint has debuted its latest silver bullion series, and they've headed back to the Ice Age for inspiration. This is one of their regular 0.9999 two-ounce silver series the mint produces, usually nature based, although they've [...]
Nature coins are always popular, and there's a huge variety of designs and styles, often of a wildly varying quality, on the market today. There are shaped coins, dimensional ones, and a plethora of coloured efforts, but for us, nothing beats a cleanly struck proof coin that's focused on the artwork, and what better way to get the [...]
One of the better, and more prolific issuers of nature coins, the Royal Canadian Mint has just issued the second of its 'Colourful Birds' coins, following the 2021 debut of the first, the Blue Jay (image below). The latter has appeared on a Canadian coin before, as part of the 2015 'Songbirds of Canada' series, but the 2022 [...]
The Royal Canadian Mint has experimented with, and produced some super coins in the past, using a type of art composed of crystal-like facets. These employed the mint's ridiculously-named 'Extraordinarily High-Relief', and did so excellently, offering animal portraits on clean backgrounds, composed entirely of those facets. The RCM's latest isn't as ambitious, ring-fencing the faceted sections to the [...]

After an extended, no doubt Covid led delay, the second coin is about to ship. This time we're out of the sea and into the woods with the legendary Werewolf. [...]
It was a Canadian dinosaur coin that started my interest in coins some years ago, so any new release from the mint is always of interest here. It helps that large parts of Canada, particularly Alberta, are home to some quite extraordinary fossils, both in quality and quantity, and the mint has always been welcoming of new [...]
Royal Canadian Mint goes fully dimensional for its 2020 Remembrance Day poppy silver coin Lots of the world's big national mints, as well as a few of the independents, issue a coin to martk Remembrance Day. Over the last few years, we've seen so super designs, sometimes focusing on the poignance of the event, other times [...]
Sir John Franklin's ill-fated expedition to the NW Passage is remembered 175 years later on a superb Canadian silver coin We can always expect a smattering of coins featuring the iconic maple leaf that so epitomises Canada's national identity being released every month, as well as something gimmicky in an attempt to [...]
Royal Canadian Mint takes its diamond adorned Forevermark range into the third dimension Over the last few years, the Royal Canadian Mint has issued several coins adorned with embedded diamonds. One of the more well known diamond jewellery companies is the De Beers Group owned 'Forevermark' brand, claiming to choose only the [...]
