We’re back at last!

Hi everyone,

Firstly, huge apologies for the downtime. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, our host decided to ‘upgrade’ us to their new server platform, and with just a couple of weeks notice, told us that their new platform had a file limit (inodes) of 250,000 files. Well, we’re over a decade old now, and very active (about 4,000 articles now!), so after finding out we were already at almost double that, it became clear that, short of deleting half the site and never posting again, it was untenable.

We’ve also had many issues with them. When we signed up with them back in 2013, they had a peerless reputation, but a few years ago, they were bought out by GoDaddy, and haven’t been the same. We now have a new host, with a higher package, who are hugely respected here in the UK. We’re still on shared hosting, but our server is capped at a max of 60 sites, rather than the many 100’s of the previous one. It has more memory, CPU cores, bandwidth, and storage (all SSD). My dealings with their support so far has been exceptional. The downtime was due to the domain name migration (and my own inexperience), so I’ve had no email either since last Thursday. All is good now, so we’re back up and running, and on more solid foundations than ever.

I’ve had some access for a couple of days on a single PC, so have done some work on the site. You’ll have noticed a news post and a PEZ Quicklook have gone up already, and we have more for tomorrow. We also have a couple of all new coins to write up, and at least one of those should go up tomorrow, also. I’ve tweaked the front page update alerts as well, with colour coding by type, and increased the number of them to 10. If you keep an eye on these, it will let you know when our profiles and guides have been updated. Some like the Tokelau Sealife bullion series, the World’s Wildlife bullion series, and the PEZ profile have all been redone to make them look better on a wider range of screens, and had new additions. There are many others detailed on the homepage.

Thank you all for the patience and understanding. It’s been a stressful week. For anyone out there who has emailed us since late on the 8th of May, please do resend it, and we’ll get on it. It frustrates me that we may have missed stuff because of this unplanned issue. Fell free to leave comments below if you wish, and obviously, feel free to hit the donate button if you’d like to help. It is, of course, appreciated immensely. Many thanks.

Mik
