The marvel that is the Internal Combustion engine is the subject of the latest release from Coins Today

If you’ve been hanging around this site for a while, you’ll know of Coin’s Today, and their very broad and esoteric range of silver bullion, usually stackable, and their equally unusual coins and silver miniatures. This latest release falls firmly into the miniature category, being neither denominated nor stackable, and even by their standards, this is an odd one.

The internal combustion engine (ICE) is over 150 years old, and even though it’s gradually being pushed out of our cars by electric motors, it’s still a ubiquitous part of modern life, and going nowhere soon. They come in many forms, from that little 50cc two-stroke scooter motor, to container ship engines like the Wärtsilä-Sulzer RT-flex96C, which weigh 2,300 tons, and has 6 m tall pistons.

The three-ounce silver miniature is of the automotive variety, and features the familiar cylinder head covers, block, and even a full four-pipe exhaust system. It’s actually quite a remarkable reproduction, filled with detail on all sides, even the underside. The whole thing is antique finished, almost looking like an oily sheen, appropriately enough.

The miniature comes presented in some attractive custom packaging, so display won’t be an issue, and only 199 of these will be produced. Not a release for everyone, of course, but definitely something a bit special for the car nut who likes to dabble in silver. Available to order now.
