Third Swan bullion coin from the Perth Mint arrives as a UHR gold proof and a very limited set

One of the Perth Mint’s limited mintage nature-themed bullion coin rnnges, the Australian Swan debuted in 2017 to much acclaim. A pretty design, fresh subject, and from a respected mint, the Swan returned in 2018, and is now back for a third time. The bullion coin has been available for a couple of months now, but they’ve been joined by some higher-end siblings to appease the collector.

The basic design across all the variants is identical and we really like it here. The family view is a charming natural progression from the two previous pieces and features good anatomy and just enough detail – remember, this is at heart a bullion coin design. The standard 1oz silver and 1oz gold coins are present and correct, but there’s also a very limited three coin set comprising one of each of those two, along with a 1oz proof silver coin. An exclusive at US mega-dealer APMEX, a tiny 50 sets will be produced, 20 of which will be graded. A neat way to get the best of the design.

Also added to the selection on offer is a beautiful 1oz ultra high relief gold coin. We’ve always considered this format (in gold or silver) to be the best of the Perth Mint’s higher-end versions of bullion designs, and this is likely to be the case here. The increased definition just makes the design ‘pop’ that bit more, although the downside is the reduced diameter, the result of a need for greater thickness. Again, a very limited mintage, in this case just 188 pieces.

A attractive coin available in formats to suit all pockets, the Perth Mint are definitely on a roll with this and their various other limited run nature bullion coins. It’s good to see the tempo of releases stay high as we head towards the big September launch of the 2020 core designs, including the first issue in the new Lunar Series III range.
