Although relatively new, producer MK have already made quite a splash with just their first two releases. The first was the size of a dinner plate, and the second actually was one, so we do expect ambitious design when we get news of a new one. We certainly got it with this new Nine Dragons range, and just in time for the Lunar Year of the Dragon in 2024.

What we’re looking at here is the first two designs of the nine that will eventually make up the range. The first is called the Scaled Dragon, and the second is the Winged Dragon. However, there’s more to it than that. Each of the designs will be offered with a choice of four different finishes. There’s a clean silver finish, an antiqued one, a gilded one, and the last is done in Obsidian Black. Quite a mix.

The first two designs are beautiful, and boast impressive levels of high-relief on both the reverse, and obverse faces. The depictions of Chinese dragons are very dynamic, and MK have done a great job differentiating between the two. We like them both, especially the obverse face of the winged dragon. You don’t need me to describe them, as MK provided us with comprehensive imagery, which I’ve edited for easy viewing below.

The coins tip the scales at five-ounces, and each variant has a mintage capped at just 50 pieces, so a total of just 200 pieces of winged dragon, and 200 scaled. Each coin comes in a small tin, but there’s also a big metal case that will hold a set of the nine individual releases, and it comes with a glow-in-the-dark orb. This comes with the ninth gilded dragon release. You can build up a set with a specific finish, or mix and match as you see fit. Apparently, your set could be one of over a quarter million combinations!

Quite a remarkable release that will take a little effort to compile, but offering a lot of choice, and considerable rarity for the dedicated. MK are currently building a new website, but we know French dealer Coins & More has them up for pre-order, with shipping in December. We shouldn’t have too long to wait for news of the next releases, and we honestly look forward to seeing them in all their glory. In the meantime, enjoy the pics and vids.
