Hulk Smash! Perth Mint’s Marvel Comics silver bullion series is seven issues old
While the Perth Mint seems to prefer its nature-themed bullion coins above all others, it’s good to see variety and it’s hard to be any more different from nature than Marvel Comics. Over the decades there’s been quite literally hundreds and hundreds of different characters in a huge selection of comic books, so it’s fair to say that a bullion coin series won’t be running out of subjects any time soon.
The first of these coins put in an appearance in 2017 and was successful enough to warrant expanding greatly through 2018 with four new characters. We’re now on our second coin of 2019, and it’s the Hulk doing the homours. Another good-looking design, the Hulk is instantly recognisable as the anger-fuelled beast of the classic comics and is depicted in a dynamic pose. The obverse, with the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, is a standard affair.
Mintages remain at 50,000 pieces and the coin is sold in rolls of 20, or in boxes of 100 or 300. Also available is a new carded version, which takes up 1,000 of the mintage. The themed blistercard is neat and obviously attractive to the comic fan. They are more expensive than the straight bullion coin, of course, but not excesssively so. Coins 2-6 in the series are also getting a card release, but the debut Spiderman coin won’t as the original mintage has all been sold. Distributed by LPM Group, it’s a one-ounce, 0.9999 fineness silver coin with a brilliant uncirculated finish. A guide to the series will be up later today.
