Harry Potter: The Patronus proof silver coins (2025 The Royal Mint)

The final issue in The Royal Mint’s four-coin Harry Potter series has just launched, and following The Winged Keys, The Black Lake, and The Flying Car, we have The Patronus, continuing the theme of featuring classic scenes from the uber-popular film series, released from 2001 to 2011. Harry Potter has been a giant in modern numismatics, as you can tell from our huge Thematic Guide, and with the franchise starting again soon, with an all-new cast, we don’t expect that to decline.
This one has a scene from the 2004 movie, The Prisoner of Azkaban, and depicts Harry casting a Patronus spell to ward off one of the most powerful entities in the Wizarding World, the Dementor. This is sure to be a popular addition to the set of four coins, considering how iconic this scene was.
The same three formats return, with the round £2, one-ounce silver coin being the only one not in the heptagonal 50 pence format that has proven such a huge hit for the mint. The two 50p coins are a coloured 8.0 gram silver, and a clean half-ounce 22kt gold (with a tiny 60 mintage), with all three struck to a proof finish. All are nicely boxed, and come with a certificate of authenticity. It’s a fine looking design for Potter fans. I’m surprised the round coin hasn’t made the transition to the mint’s bullion range, where I reckon it would do pretty well.
I’ve added this one to our huge Thematic Guide, along with Agoro’s latest pair, for your perusal.
