The ancient tale of the Trojan War, most famously documented around 500 years after it was said to have occurred by the Greek poet, Homer, is one of the most widely known stories from the ancient world, even more so in 2026 with the years second-biggest movie currently doing great business at the global box-office. This is the second coin covering the saga we’ve looked at this week, and while the first focused on the hero of the tale, this five-ounce silver issue from Powercoin is all about the star of the show.

The Trojan Horse is depicted using the latest 4.0 version of the always impressive smartminting technology, employing some very impressive levels of high-relief on the reverse face. It features a low perspective view of the towering horse, looking up, with a detailed moon in the sky behind. To the left and right is the city of Troy, so it looks like the scene is set after the wooden horse was brought inside the city walls, but before the hidden Greeks burst forth to open the city walls. It’s quite a busy design, filled with textures, relying on the copious relief for impact.

The obverse is a complex pattern of mechanical gears, some cleverly enclosed within a light bulb. There’s a huge amount of detail here. The Cook Islands emblem and issue details are bound within one of the gear cogs. The coin comes packaged in a latex-skin frame with a themed insert, and the mintage is capped at 499 pieces. A technically excellent take on a story I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of moving forward.
