With the arrival of another royal baby making waves around the world, it doesn’t need Einstein to know we’re going to get inundated with coins celebrating the event. We’ve already had a 750-coin run of specially packaged gold sovereigns struck on the day by the Royal Mint, as well as a unique design in gold and silver, so we’re moving out into the southern hemisphere for the next batch.
Three designs have launched to date. A 1,000 run of silver royal pram (chauffer-driven??) coins from the New Zealand Post has already sold out, one from the Royal Australian Mint bears the unfortunate initials WC in the middle, and a gold and silver version of a design from the Perth Mint is the latest to debut. We’re pretty sure there will be more coming, very likely one from Canada and maybe one or more from some of the smaller mints.
Plenty of choice to commemorate the event. None are standout designs in our view. Certainly none approach the quality of John Bergdahls Christening of Prince George commemorative released last year by the Royal Mint. With this being the second baby you can perhaps understand the mints relative lack of desire to invest huge time and money in these, but ardent Royalists will find at least one coin they like.
All are available to order from their respective mints except the NZ Post one, which as we said is already sold out at the issue price of $139.oo NZD. You’ll have to hit the secondary market if you want one of those. The RAM coin sells for $85 AUD, and the Perth pair at $695 AUD for the gold and $99 AUD for the silver.

This intricately detailed 1oz silver proof coin follows on from the commemorative coin we issued in 2013 for the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. Under the auspices of Clarence House, The Perth Mint is proud to unveil Australia’s official gold commemorative coin in honour of the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, became proud parents of their second child, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana on 2 May 2015 at St Mary’s Hospital in London, with millions of people sharing in their joy.
The reverse of the coin depicts a sculpted portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge cradling and gazing lovingly at their newborn baby girl, with HRH Prince George by their side. The image is encircled by a sculpted ribbon tied in a bow. The inscription CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF THE ROYAL BABY, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, are also included in the design.
The coin is housed in a prestigious display case within a shipper which features the name and date of birth of the new princess. The accompanying numbered Certificate of Authenticity also highlights these personal details.
