With the news of the last hour that Kate Middleton has given birth to her second child, the Royal Mint has announced there’s to be a limited run of 750 Sovereigns celebrating the birth of the new Princess that are being specially struck today. A standard bullion gold Sovereign coin, the coins are to be issued with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity signed by hand. Not by the baby, obviously…

On the birth of Prince George, the sovereigns struck specially on that day sold out quickly, and we’d expect these to do the same, even at the £500 issue price. With the baby coming in at 8lb 3oz, we’re lucky it isn’t an identical weight coin, because that would set you back around £100k!
