A personal favourite series and one that is deserving of a much wider audience, Numiscollects superb History of the Crusades coins have been launching into the market since back in 2009. Each of these sterling silver antique-finish coins depicts a major character and a scene from the particular Crusade in question.

This latest coin is the eighth in a series of twelve coins and as you can see, maintains the high standards of design and intricacy that have been hallmarks of the series since the beginning. Each coin is now boxed and in a coloured shipper, a relatively new development as most of the early coins were shipped in capsules with a small cert in a bag. It’s a hugely positive step that Numiscollect have wheeled out over much of their new releases.

Limited to just 1,000 pieces, we won’t go into too much detail here as we have a full Coin Series Profile of the range that details them all from the first coin. A series we’d highly recommend you check out. This latest coin will ship in February.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

This 8th issue in the Crusaders series will be another interesting historical coin. These events led to Louis’ call for a new crusade in 1267 and beyond, although there was little support this time; Jean de Joinville, the chronicler who accompanied Louis on the Seventh Crusade, refused to go. Initially, as with all Crusades, the Crusade would have targeted lands on the coastline of Outremer, with the ultimate aim of recapturing Jerusalem. However, Louis was soon convinced by his brother Charles of Anjou to attack Tunis first, which would give them a strong base for attacking Egypt, the focus of Louis’ previous crusade as well as the Fifth Crusade before him, both of which had been defeated there.
