Wheat Field with Cypresses 1889 2.5 oz silver coin (2024 Precious Metal Collectors)

Singapore-based producer, Precious metal Collectors, has a heavy presence in the fine art coin genre, and by heavy presence, we don’t just mean in the number of releases. Utilising their Bi-Metal minting technique, whereby silver is placed over a solid copper core, the end result was coins in the kilo weight class, but containing only 1–5 ounces of silver, with the obvious cost benefits.
Having recently reorganised, they haven’t abandoned the process, but actually improved it. Now called Tri-Metal, it has a 120 gram copper base, over which is a 750 gram zinc centre, with 2.5 ounces of fine silver on top. The result is a huge coin at a relatively affordable price, giving up nothing in aesthetics.
PMC have returned to the works of Vincent van Gogh for this release, featuring Wheat Field with Cypresses, painted in 1899 while he was staying at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Provence, after admitting himself for help with his life-long mental struggles. His trademark swirls of vibrant colour are all present, and it’s rightly considered one of his best loved works.
Just 399 of these will be struck, and each comes attractively boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity. We’re glad that PMC have decided to continue this range. Hopefully, they’ll also continue the historical busts’ series as well.
