Coins Today’s stackable bullion range adds the fourth of six chess issues, and a touching look at the bond between wolves

Like many good things, Coins Today’s stackable silver bullion seems to come in pairs of releases, and today sees the debut of two such designs, in what has become one of the best silver bullion ranges on the market today. A wide mix of often extraordinary designs, across a wide selection of subjects, marks them out as something completely unique.

The first of the two issues is actually the second in the ‘Furious Beasts’ series. This started back in January with the launch of a Grizzly Bear design, a superb piece of numismatic art featuring a bear tearing its way through a wall. That theme continues with the second coin, only this time it’s a tiger.

What a phenomenal piece of art! The Tiger is seen bursting through a dense wall of bamboo, teeth bared, and exaggerated claws extended. The level of detail in the fur, and the sheer three-dimensionality of it, are particularly impressive when you remember that it’s a fully stackable piece of bullion. As with the bear, this is struck in two ounces of silver, and has a mintage of 10,000 units, each of which is supplied encapsulated.

FURIOUS BEASTS: TIGER STACKABLE

The second release is of a theme that Coin’s Today has mined in the past – the shield. This latest release is the first in a series called Renewed Shields, and comes with improvements in detail and levels of high-relief. While the earlier designs were often based on actual artifacts, like the Shield of Henry II, or the medieval jousting shield, this one is very much a piece of imaginative art.

It’s a beautiful design, meant to be inspired by the Crusaders in the medieval period. The depiction of the armoured knight is outstanding, if not particularly realistic, and the posing is very much of the period. Above is head is a medieval-style piece of heraldic art, which sits over a tangled mix of what looks like thorny undergrowth, A raised ornate border surround it all. Again, this is a two-ounce piece that comes encapsulated, and has a mintage capped at 10,000. Another terrific release.
