Scottsdale returns to Samoa for its second annual Seahorse silver bullion coin, and doubles the choice of finish

The Samoa Seahorse bullion coin is back and it has reappeared with two finishes this time. Launching last year for the first time, the Samoa Seahorse from Scottsdale Mint was a pretty coin with an unusual artistic style and a 30,000 mintage. Available only as a prooflike one-ounce silver coin, it was a neat addition to this US mints wide and eclectic selection of bullion products.

For 2019, Scottsdale have refreshed the design with a more ‘Polynesian’ style and added a second finish. Nestled in a tribal-style pattern, with stylised bubbles to the right, the seahorse is nicely detailed for a bullion coin. To be honest, we love this one. It doesn’t end there, however. The 30,000 mintage of last years issue has been split into 20,000 of these, and 10,000 with an antiqued finish. Immediately jumping to one of our favourite bullion coins of 2019 so far, this is a hugely attractive variant.

The Samoan national coat of arms sits on the obverse, surrounded by the issue details and a patterned border. Available to pre-order from today, they can be purchased individually, or in branded ‘skin-boards’ containing five pieces. Premiums should be relatively low, although expect to pay a few dollars more for the antiqued coins, for the obvious reasons.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

In partnership with Samoa, Scottsdale Mint is proud to announce the latest annual release of the spectacular Samoan Seahorse Silver coin program. The Seahorse is native to the tropical waters surrounding the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific Ocean and can most often be found hiding on the ocean floor and in coral reefs. The coin depicts a Seahorse in open water, complimented by Polynesian tribal waves and a subtle seagrass design on the outer edge.

In 2019, the 2nd year of the Samoan Seahorse program, the complete, maximum mintages for these coins are limited to 20,000 pieces (1 oz Silver BU) and 10,000 pieces (1 oz Silver Antiqued). These legal tender coins are manufactured and produced by Scottsdale Mint, struck in .999+ fine silver and weigh 1 Troy ounce each. Both the Silver BU and and Silver Antiqued Seahorse coins ship on Scottsdale Mint branded skin boards.
