Scottsdale adds Samoa to its silver bullion coin range for 2018 with the Seahorse
In what is turning out to be a bumper year for Scottsdale Mint, they’ve announced the release of another silver bullion coin and it’s an issue that doesn’t sit within the current ranges they have going, like the 2018 EC8 Caribbean range, or the Silverback Gorilla. This new coin is issued for an island nation, however, although one quite some way from the Caribbean.
Samoa is a new recipient of Scottsdale’s interest and the South Pacific nation lends its coat-of-arms to this new bullion coins obverse face. These coins are all about the reverse face though, and the seahorse is a good-looking one. Eschewing the realistic look of the recent APMEX exclusive effort issued for Barbados, this Samoan coin goes with a strictly stylised look, meant to look similar to a stained glass window. The border is quite large, limiting the space available for the seahorse image, but that border carries some art of its own – an extension of the stained glass theme. The overall effect is successful and quite different from the APMEX coin.
The mintage on this one ounce 0.999 silver coin is capped at 30,000 pieces, three times that of the Barbados issue, but Scottsdale have an impressive reputation amongst stackers for quality and selection, so we have little doubt these will sell well enough. Available to order any time now, they should start to ship from next week. There are to be two coins in this range through 2018 and the second one will be a reverse-proof variant that we expect to hear more about soon. Whether this is a bullion variant or a commemorative one remains to be seen.
MINTS DESCRIPTION
In partnership with the country of Samoa, we are pleased to offer the first release of an anticipated 2-coin annual program – The 1 oz Samoan Seahorse Silver Coin (2018)(Proof-like).
The Seahorse, named as such for its horse-like head, is native to the tropical waters surrounding the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific Ocean and can most often be found feeding or hiding in the ocean’s mangrove forests and sea grass beds.
The coin’s image is an artistic depiction of a Seahorse camouflaged in a sea grass bed near the ocean floor, attempting to elude its many predators. The unique abstract stain-glass design of this coin leaves the investor with the impression that this coin more closely resembles a piece of art than a legal tender instrument.
In this, the inaugural year of an anticipated annual program brought to you by Scottsdale Mint, the complete mintage of the 1 oz Samoan Seahorse Silver Coin (2018) is limited to only 30,000 pieces.
The coins, manufactured and distributed by Scottsdale Mint and legal tender in Samoa, are struck in .999+ silver, weighing 1 troy ounce each, proof-like and placed in capsules.  They are shipped on customized Scottsdale Mint branded skin boards of five (5) coins allowing for ease of sale by cutting the skin board into individual pieces for your customers while keeping them sealed.

I wish to purchase two seahorse rounds. Is there any way to do this?
Thank you.

Yes. If you’re in the US, APMEX have them (https://www.apmex.com/product/171231/2018-samoa-1-oz-silver-seahorse-bu) and they do ship internationally.
