In production for many years, the Isle of Man Angel been one of the longest produced of modern bullion coins and has been available in gold and silver across several weights. This latest release is one of a growing number of bullion coins available with a privy mark. These are small symbols or images struck into the surface of an existing design and are often produced in far lower numbers than the parent coin. The Perth and Royal Canadian Mints have been avid proponents of these marks, the former with it’s various silver bullion coins, especially the Kookaburra and Lunars, and the latter with its ubiquitous Maple Leaf coin.

Pobjoy Mint started this current series of privy marks with the intention of celebrating each of the Twelve Days of Christmas. This new coin represents the culmination of that, being the twelfth coin to carry a mark, in this case the Twelve Drummers Drumming. The Twelve Days of Christmas is an old English Christmas carol first published in 1780, although the current version was arranged by English composer Frederic Austin in 1909. One of the great festive songs, it’s easy to see how it could be easily adapted to a series of privy marks.

Struck to a proof finish in 1/20oz of 0.9999 gold, only 1,000 of this last design in the series will be struck. Available to buy from the Pobjoy website, it sells for a not inconsiderable £130.00 for 1.5g of gold, and will ship from November 26th.

Each coin has been produced to the highest quality and is detailed to perfection having been struck four times to achieve stunning sculpted reliefs contrasted against a mirror brilliant background – the famous Pobjoy Proof finish.
