Teaser of Germania Mint's Fafnir sequel, Fenrir, appears online. Nice.
One of the big bullion hits this year, the first Germania Beast’s coin from Germania Mint was a striking double-coin spread design featuring Fafnir, a dragon from Norse and Germanic mythology. A clever idea, beautifully realised, it rightly became a hit, with the special Germinus versions changing hands for high prices.
We’re just prepping a look at JVP Mint’s extravagant range of modded Fafnir coins when we came across a new post by Germania giving us a sneak peek at 2022’s entrant in the Germania Beast’s series. Called Fenrir, it depicts the giant wolf chained and snarling. There’s only an image of the one face at present, but from the way the wolf ends at the bottom of the coin, overlapping the rim as it does, and the fact the beast is shown almost cut in half, does suggest that the obverse will carry the other half of the image as well. This means the dual coin capsules will return. It looks a superb piece on this early evidence, and we look forward to seeing more soon.
