To say it’s a little late in the year to be releasing a 2014 bullion coin is probably an understatement, but that hasn’t prevented the Central Bank of Russia from doing so with its gold Saint George the Victorious coin. In fact this year is actually a sooner announcement than for the 2012 coin, which was formally issued on 21 January 2013.

There are no changes in either the specification, mintage, or design (outside of the date). Struck at both the Moscow and Saint Petersburg Mint’s, the Baklanov (National Artist of Russia) designed coin remains a beautiful piece. Sadly, there’s no sign of the silver one-ounce version again, originally put on hold while the mint churned out loads of Sochi Olympics coins.

More information can be found in our Bullion Guide to the coin.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

A gold bullion uncirculated coin in denomination of 50 Roubles (fine metal content 7,78 g, fineness 999/1000, diameter 22,6 mm, mintage up to 500000 pcs), has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

OBVERSE: A relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. Inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coin «ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ» (FIFTY ROUBLES) and the year of issue «2014», between them there is an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of a mint and fine precious metal content.

REVERSE: This side of the coin bears a relief image of Saint George the Victorious on a horseback spearing a dragon.
