Our love affair with dinosaurs is well known, so it goes without saying that Emporium Hamburg’s ‘Prehistoric Life’ range of bullion coins has been popular here, a bit of an understatement, in fact. A series of twelve coins issued over four years, the Stegosaurus pictured here is, sadly, the last of them.

It keeps all those neat little touches that have become hallmarks of the series, like the border timeline, as well as the often outstanding depictions of the prehistoric animals in question, all in their natural habitats. While these are renders, we do like this one of a very well known herbivore, famed for its tiny brain. Perhaps it sat in the dinosaur Senate…

There are the usual three variants, with a one-ounce silver in clean and coloured forms, and unusually, a minigold, something we heartily approve of here. The basic design remains the same on all of them. We’re very sad the series has ended, but hope it will come back for a second outing. That should be easy given the number of prehistoric animals out there yet to star.
