AGAUSHOOT: Spinosaurus, by MCI-Mint

Released in April 2015, by German producer, MCI-Mint, this immediately appealed because it was a dinosaur, of course, something regular readers will know we have a lot of love for here. It was a one-ounce antique-finished silver coin, and as you can see, the depiction hasn’t aged well given the phenomenal research done on this amazing animal over the last decade. The original news article can be seen HERE. MCI-Mint seems to have given up issuing coins, moving into their TV shopping channel in Germany.

The model in the photoshoot is from a Sideshow Collectibles statue I own, which is around 81 cm (32″) in length. It’s an Exclusive Edition, which came with the small skull you see here. Gives you some idea of the size of the full thing when a 38.6 mm coin sits in the mouth! The tooth in some images is a genuine fossil Spinosaurus tooth from Morocco I bought many years ago. The stone top the coin sits on is Jura Beige limestone from Germany, which is filled with fossils.
