Pobjoy follows 2019’s ‘Big 5’ 2oz silver coin series with ‘Big Cats of the World’.

An interesting series that emanated from the Pobjoy Mint last year, the African Big Five took a stylised look at the fabled quintet. Struck to a proof finish in two ounces of fine silver, they were all launched in the first half of 2019.

The concept is back for 2020 with a new five coin series featuring the Big Cats. No changes to the format, although the stylised art has been replaced with a more realistic and natural style that almost completely fills the reverse face.

First out of the gates is the Lion, with the Tiger, Cheetah, Cougar and Black Panther rounding out the set. Issued for Sierra Leone, the obverse carries that African nations emblem, surrounded by the issue details.

A high relief strike, they have a mintage capped at 500 pieces and retail for just shy of £100 pre-tax. They come in the neat acrylic display boxes we like so much and are available now.
