Aladdin joins Sinbad and Ali Baba in the NZ Mint’s Legendary tales silver coin series

REVERSEPACKAGING

Legendary Tales is a series of 1oz silver coins featuring some of the iconic stories told in that classic collection, Arabian Nights. We’ve already seen Sinbad, and Ali Baba brought to life, and now it’s the turn of Aladdin – quite conveniently given the new blockbuster Will Smith movie version has just hit cinemas.

The same loose style is in evidence again, something the NZ Mint has employed many times before on various antiqued series. It doesn’t compete with the wow factor of a Mint of Poland 2oz special, but at just $65.00 USD, it’s a whole lot cheaper. The Niue emblem on the back is a unique change from the usual effigy of QEII, and the packaging is a neat favourite of ours. A good, lower-end effort for those that like the genre, but balk at the huge cost of some of the competition. Available from 30th August.

DESIGN: uses engraving to illustrate Aladdin in the cave and the genie appearing out of the lamp. The obverse features the rarely used effigy of the Niue Coat of Arms.
