PAMP adds new gold and silver bars to its extensive range, including the fourth and final release in its ‘Nature’s Grip’ series
Swiss precious metal legends, PAMP (Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux), have long been one of the leaders in issuing bars with a wide range of designs, something more producers are catching up with in recent years as the format grows in popularity. They don’t seem eager to give up their position, and they continue to develop both the breadth of that range, incorporating many new franchised pop-culture brands into it, and the range of formats on offer.
Our little round-up of four of their latest is a good case in point, with a mix of gold and silver, licensed and original themes, and weights going from half a gram, to over 300 grams. There are some neat design tweaks, especially with the final ‘Nature’s Grip’ issue, but most follow that traditional bar look, which seems to be the way the majority like them. Bars are generally more affordable than coins, especially when the latter are packed with minting techniques, and in these times of high precious metal prices, we’re not surprised they have garnered increased interest. We do plan to start collating the PAMP bars into their own profile, perhaps two of them (splitting franchised bars into their own one), so look out for that in the future.
NATURE’S GRIP: NILE CROCODILE (1oz)
This series of four, one-ounce silver bars appears to have been extremely popular, with earlier issues, like the Sunbeam Snake, for example, often selling for ten times the current spot price, and sets of four bars selling for over five times spot. These are a little different from PAMP’s usual output in three main ways. Firstly, they’re denominated with a smaller mintage, secondly, they have a clever edge gimmick as part of the design, and lastly, there’s a holo-coating on the subject for a little pizzazz.
After that Sunbeam Snake, there came an Anaconda, and then an Octopus. The series concludes with perhaps the most fascinating animal on the planet, the Nile Crocodile. As before, part of the animal is depicted as if impacting, or gripping, the edge of the bar. A snake has obvious advantages here, but PAMP have done a great job in using the croc’s powerful tail to imply pressure on the bars boundary. The nose of the creature is less successfully used as, to be honest, the crocodile isn’t the perfect choice for this concept, something noticeable on the obverse, which lacks that wrap-around that was so iconic on the first three bars.
Jowever, if we ignore the tenuous link to the series title, this is a great looking bar in its own right, with a particularly nice obverse design. We can’t see the holo effect well in these images, but it’s relatively subtle, which we like. Packaging is nicely decorated, and carries a serial number that is engraved on the bar as well. A decent end to a popular series.
ARABIAN SERIES: CAMEL (5g)
A subject we don’t often see on bars, or even coins, Arabia is nevertheless rich in culture, history, and nature, all quite different to everywhere else on the planet. PAMP have made a terrific decision in mining this rich vein for a range of 5 gram gold bars, and have chosen to concentrate on the region’s fauna. In 2023, the series debuted with an Arabian Horse, followed in 2025 with a Saker Falcon. The third bar in the series depicts an animal iconic to the region, the camel.
The design style continues, a single grounded animal set in front of an arabic-inspired geometric pattern, with no other intrusions messing things up. Like the silver bar, the serial number is engraved over a series common obverse, with that number also appearing on the back of the sealed blisterpack. Unlike the silver bar, there’s a beautifully themed outer box, which also includes a gold-toned stainless steel frame pendant, to which you could attach your own chain, and wear the bar around your neck. An open mintage means you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting hold of one.
AMERICAN WOLF (10oz)
The American Wolf is a more traditional release, although in a ten ounce format. The front has a quite excellent close-up portrait of a snarling wolf, with no other distractions getting in the way. The area around the mouth seems especially well done, and overall, an imposing image. By contrast, the obverse has a nice image of three howling wolves at the top, but is otherwise forgettable. The pattern is quite clever, but the PAMP logo is really unattractive. We’d have put the composition running around the edge, and made that wolf group larger, but it works anyway.
The packaging is simple enough, but attractively decorated, framing the wolf dramatically. Overall, a release we like a lot, and it has an open mintage, so shouldn’t break the bank to pick up over a more boring competitor.
HARRY POTTER 25th ANNIVERSARY (0.5g)
PAMP has leaned heavily into pop-culture franchises of late, with a quite extraordinarily wide range of differing themes. Harry Potter is one of them, and this minigold bar is the perfect pick-up for the younger collector. With the Harry Potter juggernaut hitting its 25th anniversary, and a complete screen reboot in the works, it’s fair to say the release of this one is timely indeed.
As a half-gram bar, don’t expect much in the way of relief or extravagant design, and what we have here is more etched than struck, focusing on the official 25th anniversary logo on the main face, with the Hogwarts emblem sitting on the obverse above the inscribed conposition. It comes presented in a themed blisterpack, with a serial number printed on the inner card. A welcome, relatively affordable offering for the Potter nerds.
