A classic car is the latest cast silver miniature to join Coin’s Todays portfolio

We weren’t sure whether to cover this release, which, as a cast silver miniature, is pushing the boundaries of what we usually write about, but with the increasing popularity of cast weapons, and some statues linked to coin franchises, I thought it was neat enough to pique your interest. Plus, it’s a classic car, and who doesn’t think they’re cool?

This one is formed in three ounces of sterling (0.925) silver, and is clearly inspired by the Auto Union Horch 853, a beautiful vehicle that was built from 1937, one of which may have been used by the tiny moustachioed Austrian corporal as a staff car from time to time. They varied in detail quite a bit, as this was the era of coachbuilt bodywork, but the shape is unmistakable. It was actually a convertible, with that odd protuberance behind the side window being the mechanism for the fabric roof.

While the original car is rare and expensive, the miniature shouldn’t be, although only 199 will be produced, so it’s hardly a VW Beetle… They will come presented in a display box, and with a certificate of authenticity, and should be available to order shortly.
