Le Grand Mint concludes its three-coin homage to the Hindu goddess, Durga, with a 2025 release in silver and gold

A warrior goddess in the Hindu religion, Durga represents the triumph of good over evil, fighting demonic forces threatening peace and balance. She is usually depicted as a beautiful, many-armed woman, carrying many weapons, and riding a tiger or a lion. Durga is worshipped predominantly around the time of the Spring and Autumn harvests, when there are numerous festivals across Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and many other countries where she is worshipped,

Le Grand Mint debuted their three-issue Durga series in 2023, so the 2025 release is the final coin. The range is predominantly based around a one-ounce silver coin, a premium bullion coin that seems to be very keenly priced for a high-relief strike of such detail, and a ten-gram gold variant with an identical design. Additionally, the 2023 and 2024 issues (shown lower down) also had a partially gilded silver variant, and in 2024, a one-gram gold version was added. For 2025, only the part-gilded silver coin is missing at present.

The design of the 2025 coin is, in our view, the finest of the series, with an impressive portrayal of the multi-armed goddess standing alongside a tiger, the latter taking the place of the lion from the earlier coins. The relief is higher than you would expect from a coin of this type, and is well utilised adding depth, especially noticeable around the arms. The background is a riot of fine detail, packed with regional iconography. The fine border, with its micro-engraved pattern, is a particularly nice touch.

The obverse, which is custom to this issue (earlier coins each had a unique design) is also beautifully done, with the four segments around the central issue inscriptions, equally packed with art. This really is a very pretty coin. The silver coin is sold encapsulated with a COA, and the gold pair also come boxed as well. Available to order now, they should ship in late February.
