Take me to your Beeder! Powercoin’s second Bionic Genesis 5oz silver coin debuts, and we round-up some issues we missed

Rome-based producer, Powercoin, has been extra busy of late with a flurry of new releases. We haven’t covered them all, of course, as I try to spread the love around, but we’re looking at their latest issue, a special-edition entrant in their Bionic Genesis series, and thought we’d peek at the ones we missed as well. It’s a casual, visual peek, so enjoy the images of these really cool silver coins.

As you would expect, all the coins below come boxed, and with a Certificate of Authenticity. All are available to pre-order now, although the Lady Waterfall coin seems to be selling out in some places.

BIONIC GENESIS: QUEEN BEE

Back in January, Powercoin released a two-ounce coin called Bionic Genesis: Bee, and while this new release keeps that distinctive look and finish, it gets a ‘Special Edition’ label, and a jump to five ounces. The focus here is on the Queen Bee, the largest member of the hive around whom all the other bees congregate.

The design links are clear, with the hexagonal honeycomb backgound, complete with its selective gilding and enamel fill, returning, along with gilded bees. There are three bees this time, one of them the Queen. It isn’t a natural composition, however, as there are clear nods to technology in both the honeycomb, and the bees. The obverse also draws inspiration from the smaller coin, although it differs quite a bit in scale and detail. The key here are the gilded highlights, which depict the growth of the queen from her sealed cell, to adulthood. The gold on black looks great here.

Packaging is well done, with a nice gloss-black box holding the coin, and a certificate of authenticity. Just 199 of these will be struck, but with silver priced as it is, that looks to be a sensibly balanced number.

HOLY BEYOND TIME: CHRIST

Religion, particularly Christianity, seems to be a popular theme in modern numismatics. It’s certainly inspired some great coins, whether the subject appeals or not. This one is certainly a perfect case in point. Tapping into the two millennia of art and literature surrounding Christ, we have this fantastic depiction, done in a stle perhaps inspired by the Art Deco movement. The way the hair and beard form the shape of the coin, all picked out in high-relief, is quite sublime. It’s certainly a style I’d like to see applied to other historical genres.

The obverse carries that style over, with the hand blessing gesture the central focus. It’s all quite a modern interpretation of the iconography, and one that makes one of the best religious coins of any type I’ve ever seen, and I say that having no personal interest in the subject. The packaging looks okay, although one of the gloss black boxes used for the bee coin would have been classier.

HOLY BEYOND TIME: MARY

Mary is clearly the companion coin to the Christ release, with a similar style that works equally well. She is depicted with a very serene look, also gazing downward like the other coin. The obverse is identical, as is the packaging. Another terrific piece, beautifully finished with antiquing. The pair are one of Powercoin’s best of 2026, in my opinion.

LADY WATERFALL

Lady Waterfall is unusual for Powercoin in not being a struck coin, but cast, and an extraordinary one at that. The first release in a new series called ‘Wireframe Art’, it utilises a modelling look that people using 3D printers know only too well. The head of a beautiful woman appears as if lifting from a pool of water. She wears an ethereal look, despite being formed from a series of contoured lines.

There are some exceptions, like the eyes, ears, nose and mouth, all sensory organs, and perhaps the textured contours that made up the rest of her head are meant to represent the fifth sense, touch. The water is ably represented by a blue enamel infill, its smooth surface enhancing that feeling of calm. The obverse is simple, with a pattern of concentric rings looking as if they were the ripples from a stone dropped into the water. T

This is quite an outstanding release. While this type of coin isn’t for everyone, there’s no arguing the artistic merit, and fine execution on display here. Personally, I think it’s amongst the best of its type in this ever more popular genre, and I for one can’t wait to see where they go with it next.
