It’s animals all round for our latest bullion coin round-up (Week 46, 2024)
A day late, as I spent most of yesterday updating guides and profiles (and losing the will to live in the process…), here’s our fortnightly look at new bullion coins. There are just the four this week, but a decent variety nevertheless, and I still have some semblance of sanity, so there’s always that!
Just two weeks ago we showed the newest coin in this terrific series II, and here we are with the third, and last, of the 2024 issues. The first series ended last year, and can be seen in our bullion profile. The Utahraptor is the latest subject, and for those unaware of this fascinating animal, it’s closer to the Jurassic Park raptors, than an actual Velociraptor, which was the size of a chicken. This thing was 5 metres long and weighed 500 kilos, so a whole different level of predator.
As we said last time, the range continues to consist of a 1 oz silver coin in either cleanly struck, or coloured versions, as well as a minigold coin. A sensible selection, more affordable than most, especially given golds stratospheric appreciation of late. Available to order now. A fine addition to an AgAuNEWS favourite bullion series.

After a quiet period, especially in terms of gold releases, it seems that the New Zealand Mint has decided it’s time to jump back in with Disney bullion coins. The debut this week is the fourth Mickey Mouse themed Christmas coin, this time featuring his Mrs, Minnie. Despite the film division getting a bit of a kicking of late, the company’s characters remain popular, so this one, should sell well, we feel.
The same two variants are offered, with a one-ounce silver coin having a mintage of 15,000 pieces, way down from the earlier issues (a great thing, in our opinion), and a one-ounce gold coin that tops out at just 100 units. Given the nature of Disney collectibles, that’s quite a rare thing.

The spiritual successor to the Royal Mint’s own Queen’s Beasts series, Tudor Beast’s continues to mine Britain’s extensive heraldic history. While the proof range is up to seven issues (of 10), this one is the sixth bullion release, as the debut coin in the range has yet to go bullion.
The Queen’s Panther is another fine design by David Lawrence, and remains available in a choice of three metals, adding platinum to the usual pairing of gold and silver. As well as the three variants listed out in the specification table below, there are also 10 oz silver, and 1/4 oz gold versions as well.

It’s about time we noted the release of the first issue in the third series of the South African Mint’s ‘Big Five Africa’ series of bullion, and proof coins. The first series launched in 2019, and incorporates the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo. The reverse design changes with each cycle, but the repeating obverse design you can see below, has remained unchanged, not even for a date, which sits on the flip side.
The series is known for some fine art, and the imposing animal on this coin certainly fits that bill. A fine looking coin. The range is far more extensive than the two one-ounce coins we’ve depicted and specced here, including platinum, and various collector sets. You can see much more extensive information in our Bullion Profile to this range, and we’ll refresh it to include this range shortly.
