Germania Mint rounds out its popular Goddesses range of cast bars with Nerthus, along with a beautiful Breast Cancer Awareness design

Sadly, today sees the day we feature the last in Germania Mint’s hugely attractive Goddesses series of two-ounce cast bars. The six-bar series debuted at the beginning of the year, and is ending right on cue. Each of the bars depicts a quite beautiful depiction of a Norse / Germanic goddess in portrait form, richly decorated with nature, and highlighted in a colour different for each issue. Each bar is capped at 999 pieces, and bears a serial number and glyph on the back.

The last bar could well be our favourite of the six, depicting Nerthus, described by Germania Mint as the goddess of fertility, earth, and nature. She was associated with a ceremonial wagon procession, and stated to be a ‘Mother Earth’ by the famous 1st century CE Roman historian, Tacitus, in his work ‘Germania’. Nerthus was a popular deity amongst the Germanic people of the time.

It’s a beautiful piece of art, and the light blue colour suits it very well. Just a few hours before this article was published, we were fortunate to receive a sample bar from Germania Mint (huge thanks), so you can see some actual images of the finished bar I took straight after, including one on the trusty map mouse mat! A terrific bar to wrap up this series, and we hope they return with something new next year, perhaps historical figures, rather than mythological ones. In the meantime, we’re still waiting on the last two from the equally cool Gods companion series. Available to order now. Check out the whole bar program in our comprehensive profile.

Also putting in an appearance is this very pretty bar released to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month, which was in October. This is what Germania Mint calls one of its ‘co-branded’ releases, and Pink October one was done for a chain called Goldenmark, who have stores in over twenty towns and cities across Poland, specialising in precious metals, gems, art and literature – basically, for the premium collector.

This bar, however, will have its proceeds donated to the Federation of Associations ‘Amazonki’ fighting cancer, so definitely a worthy cause. It certainly helps that the design is so beautifully realised, and the small 250 mintage will be an added attraction for the collector. Unusually for the releases in this Germania Mint program, it doesn’t come in a standard card box, but in a wooden one. To buy one, you will have to visit Goldenmark to pick one up. A great design for a worthy cause.
