Disney bullion coin range grows with the addition of a Mickey Mouse 90th anniversary design

SILVERGOLD

This year is the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse and the New Zealand Mint has been marking the occasion with a full range of numismatics and more. One thing missing was a bullion coin, but even that niche is now filled with the debut of a new pair  to join their previous issues of Disney and Star Wars bullion ranges.

A big number ’90’, a small Mickey forming the centre of the zero in that number, a phrase and a starburst pattern of background lines make up the design. It’s a fairly unadventurous piece, to be honest, but it’s Disney and the mintage is a relatively low 9,000 for the 1oz gold and 90,000 for the 1oz silver. Available now, the gold is sold individually encapsulated, while the silver comes in tubes of 25 or monster boxes of 250 (although you’ll have little difficulty picking up singles). Premiums are pretty competitive, especially given the licencing involved.

REVERSE: features a stylised number ninety incorporating a delightful image of Mickey Mouse. The phrase “Years of Imagination” is engraved underneath along with the metal weight, quality and Disney copyright.

OBVERSE: features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2018 year-date.
