Chocolate Crackle 1/2oz silver coin (2026 Melbourne Coin Company)

Melbourne Coin Company’s esoteric wander down the cake aisle of their local supermarket continues with the second release of their Aussie Kids Party Treats series. The producer that gave us those really cool Ouija board coins, has developed a quirky reputation, and we love their different take on the classic coin. While Aussie food isn’t deadly like the wildlife, (although Vegemite smells like it could be), it does have its unique character.
The first in this series was Fairy Bread, which sold out at the mint, and now we have Chocolate Crackle. These are treats made from puffed rice (like Rice Crispies), coated with chocolate, and sometimes some coconut. There are variations, such as using corn flakes, or peanut butter, but this seems to be the most popular.
The coin depicts a ball of this treat in a paper cake tray, with the crackle appropriately coloured. A lack of inscriptions on this face keep things looking real. The obverse of this shaped half-ounce silver coin carries the Public Seal of Niue, and the denomination. Again, it comes in a gatefold cardboard pack, fully themed out, and the mintage is capped at a tiny 300 pieces. Another piece of numismatic esoterica that is available to order now.
