We’ve done another one of our photoshoots, and this time, thanks to Sharon at Minted-UK, we’ve managed to get hold of the two New Zealand Mint ‘Classic Authors’ coins we like so much. Unfortunately, the New Zealand Mints own images of the coin, especially the reverse sides, really don’t do these beautiful strikes the justice they deserve and a few collectors will overlook them for that reason.
There have been two releases to date, both of which we’ve covered on their initial release. Firstly in 2014 came the William Shakespeare coin, and this was followed up in 2015 with one featuring Charles Dickens. Both have identical specifications, rectangular with some small amount of colouring, unusually on the obverse side. The reverse side depicts a selection of that authors most famous characters, and it’s here that the excellent design shines the brightest.
As you can see, there’s a superb level of detail struck into these and along with some nice packaging, they’re very good value at £67 each (£55.83 outside of the EU).
