Pop Coins have concluded their ultra-low-mintage Zodiac ranges, there are two of them, with a giant eighteen-coin release. The first batch were released in May, and comprised three issues in their Space Zodiac series, and three in the Anime Zodiac collection. We expected a further three of each with this second tranche, but Pop Coins have gone all-in with nine of each, thus completing the twelve symbol cycle of the zodiac.

Anime Zodiac is the more unusual of the two series, choosing to depict the traditional symbols in the style of Japanese animation style, called Anime, itself having its origins in the extremely popular world of Manga comic books. All but one feature a huge trope in anime, that of a young woman, with big eyes and coloured hair, and does so perfectly.

The same border returns, filled with simplified representations of the twelve symbols, in a number of different styles. The obverse also has a zodiac border, although here it uses the traditional zodiac symbols and constellations, rather than a pictogram. The coins are issued for Ghana, and the African state’s coat-of-arms adorns the centre section. Each coin is boxed, and has a micro mintage of only 99 pieces per design.
