Pop Coins mixes the classical world of fine art, with an AI-infused injection of Japanese anime for its latest silver coin series

Pop Coins are back with their latest venture into ultra-low mintage, AI-generated coin designs, and it includes their most innovative idea to date. There have been several differently themed series in this range, from aliens & UFO’s, through cats & dogs, to the Day of the Dead, and you can see them in our Coin Series Profile for a quick catch-up. These are proof finish coins, with colour on the reverse face, but are otherwise free of gimmickry, which makes a nice change these days.

The first of the two ranges that have just been added is called AI.nime Art, and merges the classic field of fine art masterpieces, with the colourful and vibrant cult world of Japanese anime art. There are six coins in this debut launch, and all have a framed anime-imbued interpretation of one of the world’s most recognisable masterpieces, from the Mona Lisa, to The Scream (my favourite!). They all share a common background.

Also shared is the common obverse, but it looks to be a terrific one from the render, perfectly encapsulating the theme of the series. We like that. The artwork on the obverse is also used to decorate the themed packaging. This series also has the advantage of being 1/2 ounce in weight, so eminently more affordable than the bigger 1 and 2 ounce offerings in Pop Coins portfolio, yet still maintaining the 40 mm diameter of the 1 oz. A cool series, in my view, and with a mintage of just 99 pieces, likely to go quickly.

The second range is a mix of two different styles, but covering the same subject – the Zodiac. Three signs make up this initial tranche – Taurus, Gemini, and Aries – and you have a choice of classic astrological art with astronomical backgrounds, or an anime-style, which is more big eyes and cleavage. They’re aimed at distinctly different buyers, of course, but they do share a common border, and a common obverse.

These are issued for Ghana, and the African nation’s striking coat-of-arms sits in the centre, surrounded by the twelve astrological symbols, and their corresponding constellations. Again, the packaging is common to the series, and all are available to order now.
