MDM launches its second blind box silver foil series for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the Champions Collection
The FIFA World Cup usually brings with it a big mix of coins from various countries around the world, and the upcoming 2026 World Cup, to be held in Canada, the US and Mexico, will be no different (assuming Trump lets anyone in to see it…). We do have plans to do a single Thematic Guide to them all, but in the meantime, we’ll pick out a few highlights over the coming weeks.
The first of them is German producer MDM, who are launching their second range of blind box foils, this time centred around the various winners of the coveted trophy. The concept is similar to that of Agoro’s randomly packaged trading coins, but where those are ridiculously impossible to complete a set of, MDM have made things easier. Instead of $450 USD for a box of two one-ounce coins from 55 variants, these should sell for around $100-120 for two-three gram silver coins, from a total of just 9. In addition, instead of a ‘chase’ coin with a mintage of 1 or 2, the FIFA set has one with a mintage of 500, compared to 5,000 for the 8 standard designs. The boxes are sealed, so you don’t know which two you will get.
Each coin/foil (MDM calls them Noble Notes) is presented in a slab, like those used by the grading companies, and eight of them depict one of the former winners of the FIFA World Cup since its inception in 1930. They’re laid out in a simplified ‘Top-Trump’ style, with some basic stats at the bottom, and a footballer in the national shirt at the top, surrounded by a map of the nation filled with the national flag. Under that is an etched national monument, and a number of gold stars indicating how many times the trophy has been won. The common obverse just has a simple Samoan emblem in the centre of an area depicting an etched pair of olive branches and a wire globe.
The chase card is quite easy to collect compared to the horror story that is Agoro’s one of one. The holographic trophy design has a healthy mintage of 500, which is 10% of the size of the others (all 8 have an identical mintage of 5,000). Combined with the more affordable pricing, that does make collecting a complete set considerably more realistic. It’s a neat enough set, and in a genre generally more accepting of randomised purchases, given the huge market for trading cards globally. Kudos to MDM for this one. Available to order now. The earlier ‘Host City’ set of 16 plus 1 chase card, is also available.
