Future in the Myth 01: Thor copper round (2026 Hobo Coin)

Hobo Coins appear to have had much success with their ‘Future in the Past’ range of copper rounds, mixing historical figures with futuristic alternate-reality themes, and that series is now three issues old. Joining it is the first in a whole new series called ‘Future in the Myth’. Very similar in concept, and identical in format, here the focus is on mythical figures, rather than the historical. It’s another theme that has an almost endless supply of subjects, and some fascinating imagery.
The series kicks off with one of the most well-known figures in any mythology, the Norse god, Thor, whose history and mythology I’m sure you’re all very familiar with. Much of what makes his appearance so iconic is present here, from the winged helmet, to Mjölnir, the enchanted hammer. He appears as you would expect him to look, with one key difference – the same futuristic twist that marked out the earlier series. Here, that manifests as glowing runic markings, and glowing eyes. The obverse carries that same computer circuitry pattern around its border that adorned the Future in the Past range, although overlaid with Mjölnir and the two ravens borrowed from Odin, perhaps.
While the ‘Past’ series coins were encapsulated only, ‘Future in the Myths’ is coming fully boxed, and with a mintage doubled to 1,000 pieces. Clearly, the idea of this series is garnering increased attention, and with the meteoric rise of silver and gold of late, it’s hardly surprising. Maybe we’ll see copper take on an increased importance as the year progresses. Whatever the future brings, Hobo Coins take on it is unusual, attractive and timely. A neat package, it’s available to order now.
