PopCoins launches their new ‘NEO’ range of enhanced numismatics with a higher-end take on their Velociraptor coin
PopCoins have a quite unique range of coins. As far as formats go, they’re quite simple, being proof struck, coloured silver coins, eschewing the gimmickry of much of today’s marketplace. They concentrate on two main priorities, which are a wide range of themes and designs, and very small mintage numbers, the bulk of them topping out at just 99 pieces.
The latest isn’t just a new coin, it’s PopCoins NEO, a curated range that will bring enhanced strikes and finishes, often inspired by their existing designs, but not copies of them. This debut issue is a good case in point. The inspiration comes from one of their Jurassic Life coins, released earlier this year, specifically the Velociraptor coin we’ve added an image of below.
The first NEO coin is two ounces in weight, is struck to a high-relief, and antique finished, so quite different to the original. The design is also different, similar in idea, but different enough to be distinct in its own right. The bright, saturated colouration of the original has been changed for a much more subtle, and realistic look, and the deeper strike imparts a fine sense of depth that colour can’t achieve on its own. It’s a great design, with a neat, natural look. The excellent obverse is carried over, but the addition of the antiquing elevates it.
The key feature kept intact is the positively miniscule mintage of just 99 pieces. These coins should be relatively affordable, and the subject is one of numismatics most popular, so we can’t see these hanging around for very long. PopCoins are tapping right into that collector spirit, where rarity is especially important. The coin comes boxed with a COA, and is available to pre-order now.
