The highlight of the bullion calendar is here again, and it’s the launch of the Perth Mint’s iconic nature-themed core bullion range. Many of these series date back decades and come from a time when choice was considerably more restricted than in todays more explosive times, when new coins are released seemingly every few days.

There are no real changes from last year with regard to specifications or mintages. Even the comparitive release dates only vary by a day, so this is all about the designs. The silver and platinum Kangaroo coins haven’t changed, and are considered the high-volume coins in the whole range, for their respective metals.

As for the rest, we think it’s the best selection the mint has produced for absolutely ages. The Year of the Tiger coins, both gold/platinum and silver designs, continue to reinforce our view that Lunar Series III is a huge step up from the first two runs through the calendar. The Koala is a quirky and original depiction, and the Kookaburra gives us a look at the birds interactions with human habitats. The gold Kangaroo is more similar to previous issues, but no less atractive for that.

All together, a great release run for 2022. We’re particularly pleased with the change of font and design of the coin titling on the Kangaroo, Koala, and Kookaburra coins, which is considerably more elegant, and does away with the constricting border of previous years. It’s all first class and there’s nothing here that’s going to dent the reputation of this stalwart of the bullion coin market. Well done.
