Debuting some 21 days earlier than in 2014, and before the bullion version hits the shelves (12th Jan), the United States Mint has made available for order the 2015 proof version of their seminal American Silver Eagle coin. It’s a huge selling commemorative coin, almost hitting three-quarters of a million sales in 2014.

Predictably, there are no changes to the design, being identical to the bullion coin with the exception of the small ‘W’ mintmark on the obverse, signifying the coin was struck at the US Mints West point facility.

Packaged in one of the usual blue snapper cases and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, the release price is lower than last years at a pretty reasonable $48.95 USD, something the Royal mint could perhaps learn from with its proof lunar coming in at a phenomenal £82.50, albeit with a hugely smaller mintage.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

The 2015 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin is more than a silver dollar; it’s a piece of American history sure to be treasured by coin collectors.

Made from one ounce of .999 fine silver, the American Eagle Silver Dollar with a proof finish is a collector version of the official U.S. Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin.

Each coin bears the “W” mint mark reflecting its striking at the U.S. Mint facility at West Point. Each coin is packaged in a blue velvet satin–lined presentation case and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

U.S. Mint proof coins have sharp relief and a mirror–like background. Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect. Proof blanks are specially treated, polished and cleaned to ensure high–quality strikes. Order your piece of American history today.

OBVERSE: In the centre, behind a shield carrying the words E PLURIBUS UNUM, is a heraldic eagle clasping an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left, echoing the Great Seal of the USA. Above this sit the 13 stars of the early colonies. Surrounding that are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1OZ FINE SILVER, and the denomination, ONE DOLLAR.

REVERSE: In the background around the top half of the edge sits the inscription LIBERTY. The main body is taken up by the ‘Walking Liberty’ design taken from the 1916 Half Dollar coin. At the base sits the date, and to the lower-right the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST. Below the Eagle to the left is the mint-mark.
