Powercoin debuts ‘Other Life’, a coin following the tranformation of a digital wireframe tiger, to its powerful reality
With science pushing further and further into the natural world, and the merging of the two coming closer and closer to reality, it’s of little surprise that imagery linking the two is becoming more commonplace. It isn’t something we’ve seen a lot of in numismatics, however, and Powercoin are rectifying that with their latest design.
Called ‘Other Life’, it shows us the transition of a tiger wireframe design, to a fully realised animal. Those with 3D printers will know the process, as something is created from a CAD file. Here, it almost looks like the tiger is being fabricated from a portal of some kind. The border of the coin features a high-tech design, intimating a machine of some kind, and what looks like the clever use of high-relief in the centre of a concave strike. The green highlights hint at The Matrix, something that fits perfectly with the theme.
The obverse has one of those three-dimensional creations often used to depict the warping of space, such as with black holes, or the depiction of wormholes. The Black Proof finish suits this particularly well, and the issue inscriptions are integrated in a way that doesn’t ruin the design. Overall, it’s a good-looking coin, well presented in a latex-skin frame, and with a theme not common in modern numismatics. Available to order now, it will ship in July.
