Egypt, one of the greatest civilisations in history, is the third subject of Art Mint’s award-winning silver coin series

After an award-winning first issue in which Art Mint debuted a superb new coin showcasing the ancient Mesopotamian Sumerian civilisation, which they followed up with an equally impressive look at the Indus Valley culture. The third coin of the seven in the series, is now available to order, and showcases possibly the most famous of all the ancient civilisations – Egypt. We saw this a few weeks ago, but were waiting for proper coin images, which Art Mint have now given us – thank you.

With its origins as a unified state far back as 3150 BCE, and with settlement in the region going back even further to 6000 BCE, this is one of the longest lived cultures of all time, as well as one of the earliest. As prolific builders and record keepers, they left behind a legacy that still evokes wonder today. A new museum, the Grand Egyptian Museum, has recently opened by the pyramids at Giza, and has over 100,000 artifacts spread over its 83,000 sq.m of display area. Sounds amazing.

The attractive style of the first two coins continues here, with an artifact (the Mask of Tutankhamun) in the centre, flanked by two columns and a facade, richly inscribed with hieroglyphics. Behind that, and in full colour, is a panel of Egyptian-style art, featuring all the colours we associate with it, like gold, and the blue of lapis lazuli. We think this is one of the very best series in production today, and this release does nothing to dissuade that view. Superb.

The common obverse returns. The coin is issued for Cameroon, so that African nation’s shield emblem sits in the centre, circumnavigated by the issue inscriptions. Around this, are seven concentric rings of script, and the Egyptian hieroglyphics, in silhouette form, are in the third ring out from the centre. The fourth ring, for the next coin we’re expecting later this year, is a Chinese script.

Another beautiful coin, as I said, we’re huge fans of this series here, and this is a fine encapsulation of one of the most intriguing, and impressive examples of ancient human civilisation. The coin comes boxed with a COA. Available to order now. I’ve added images of the earlier coins lower down, so you can see them all, and the packaging.
