The third in Powercoin’s awesome ‘Camouflage of Nature’ series launches today, and continues with a second big cat, always a popular subject. The series debuted in 2023 with a stunning Zebra coin, later joined by a five-ounce gilded version, which was followed in 2024 with a Leopard, also getting a gilded variant that released simultaneously this time. Unfortunately, 2025 came and went without a new addition, but the series is back with a bang in 2026 with this awesome Tiger.

The three-ounce proof silver version is the first to launch (a gilded one is to be confirmed), and harks back to that first Zebra coin with its high-contrast stripes. Here, however, the stripes are chevrons, hinting at stalking through leafier ground than the grassland of the Zebra. They’re also a good match for the pattern of stripes on the tiger’s back, which is surely the whole point of camouflage. The beautifully realised tiger sits deep within the coin, a testament to the smartminting techniques employed, and at the lowest level, the pattern of stripes becomes more organic, as if altered by the passage of the cat.

The obverse is the one common to the series, with the Cook Islands national emblem at its centre, surrounded by the inscribed series title. The bulk of this face is covered by a pattern of camouflage elements that seamlessly merge into each other. The Powercoin logo is hidden among them. The coin comes in a latex-skin frame with a themed insert, making display simple. A really impressive release, demonstrating a perfect mix of artistic style and technical excellence.
