One for the Brits! It’s time for tea with the Mint of Poland’s latest off-beat silver coin

We have a couple of odd coins today, both featuring 3D inserts, and what better way to start the day than a nice cuppa? The Mint of Poland have always had a reputation for releasing some unusual designs, for some equally oddball themes, and I reckon this one fits that bill to a tee (no pun intended…). Called ‘a time for tea’, it’s exactly what it sounds like, depicting a semiformal layout for a bit of tiffin.

There’s a fancy teapot in the background, a floral-decorated porcelain teacup in the mid-ground, and in the foreground, a small plate, on which sits a couple of 3D biscuits (or cookies if you’re American, but as this is tea, we’ll keep it British!). Behind it all is the traditional lace doily. The colouring looks well applied, and the tea looks suitably wet, although sans milk. The obverse is a basic one, with the Public Shield of Niue taking centre stage.

I’m not quite sure how this one will go down with collectors, but food-themed coins are a regular in modern numismatics, and we love the weird and wacky here, so here it is. It comes in a latex skin frame in a themed slipcover, and has a mintage of 777 pieces. It’s struck in the Mint of Poland’s unusual 17.5 gram weight, so shouldn’t be too expensive. Available to order now.
