The artistic process has a personification, as the Queen of Creativity rides in on Le Grand Mint’s latest silver coin
The latest coin from Le Grand Mint has just launched, and is one of the modern classical designs they’ve built a reputation producing in recent years, with releases such as Freya, for example. That coin was one of LGM’s two-ounce, high-relief coins, and this latest coin, Queen of Creativity, follows that same classic format.
The best way I could think to describe the concept here is that the woman on horseback is a personification of the creative arts, much like Britannia, Marianne, and Liberty are for their respective countries. The background is filled with creative elements, from touches of medieval architecture, to ancient concepts of natural phenomena, like the Sun, the Moon, and the wind. In the foreground, on a rearing stallion, is the Queen of Creativity, wearing a crenelated hat. The horse and figure are especially well depicted, oozing power and beauty, perhaps symbolising the arts themselves. The obverse is one of those designs filled with geometric patterns that LGM does so well. The coin is issued for Liberia, and that nation’s shield emblem sits in a ring-fenced space, merging perfectly with the overall look.
Two versions of this two-ounce 0.9999 silver coin are offered, with a combined mintage of 333 pieces. A cleanly struck proof coin is the rarest, at 111 pieces, and the full colour one will top out at 222 units. From these renders, it’s hard to say which of them I’d prefer, but both are gorgeous compositions. Another fine issue from Le Grand, and a clever theme for a coin. Available to pre-order now, it should ship in June.
